Nova Southeastern men’s soccer coach
Giuseppe DePalo has announced the hiring of NSU alumnus Juan Rivera as the program’s assistant coach.
“I’m happy to welcome Juan back to the Sharks family, he brings a wealth of playing experience and knows the inner workings of our program,” said coach DePalo. “In addition, he has numerous ties to local soccer clubs and coaches and will give us a boost in recruiting in South Florida. He’ll be a great addition to our team, not only on the field but off.”
Rivera takes the place of Matthew Parry, who served as the assistant coach for seven seasons. Rivera returns to the program after a stellar career under coach DePalo.
Rivera came to NSU after serving as the best defensive player at American HS in Miami, Fla. Rivera redshirted his freshman year and spent five years with NSU. Rivera was an impact player during his time here and was a starter in his junior and senior seasons. Over his last two seasons combined, Rivera logged 2,469 minutes, ranking second on the team during that span.
Rivera was a smart player who could serve in several roles on the backline. He will look to use that knowledge to help a young Sharks team in 2013.
