Softball Participates in Two Community Service Projects

The Sharks helped community children and raised money for cancer research.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern softball team has spent two days this fall helping support its community and raise money for cancer research.

On Sept. 18, the student-athletes of the 2012 NSU softball team were among 300 volunteers that participated in the NSU “A Day for Children” event. The event was centered around providing a fun environment for the children of the Fort Lauderdale area and the softball team helped keep everyone cool by distributing water and refilling ice buckets. The team also helped hand out pizza and even participated in some pick up soccer with the kids.

“It was a great experience and a lot of fun to share together as a team,” said sophomore Stephanie Palazzolo. “We were able to help out the Fort Lauderdale community and put smiles on the faces of the parents and children.”

On Oct. 1, the softball team participated in the Bike Wash at Rick Case Honda Powerhouse. The event raised money for “Ride for Kids”, a fund for the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation and the American Cancer Society’s breast cancer research fund.

The Sharks manned the Bike Wash booth for three shifts, washing and detailing motorcycles. As a group, NSU and Rick Case raised over $400 for the cause with all funds being donated in Dr. C.A. Tolchisky’s, NSU’s Manager of Student-Athlete Services, name.
