RESULTS
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams finished day two of the All-Florida Invitational, and produced near NCAA B-qualifying times. The invitational will wrap up Sunday.
During the 17th tournament event,
Emma Lawrenz (Fr., Minnetonka, Minn.)recorded a 1:01.66 in the 100-yard butterfly, a few seconds from her preliminary time (0:59.41), which was just shy of a B-qualifying time (0:58.31).
In the men’s 100-yard butterfly,
Armin Hornikel (Sr., Goose Creek, S.C.) nearly touched in B-qualifying time (0:50.98) also, touching at 0:51.74 for 10th-place.
Ash Dougan (Sr., Tewkesbury, Glouchestershire, England) (0:53.77) and
Jim Shelley (So., Charlottesville, Va.) (0:54.05) swam the 100 butterfly as well , finishing 14th and 15th, respectively.
In the 100-yard breaststroke, Hornikel would come even closer to finishing with a NCAA B-qualifying time (0:58.31), touching in 0:58.96 for fifth-place.
Ashley Aranda (Sr., Kenner, La.),
Ewa Jamborska (Sr., Katowice, Poland), Lawrenz, and
Linea Cutter (Fr., Coral Springs, Fla.) competed in the women’s 200-yard medley relay, finishing 12th at 1:52.70. The finish placed ahead of relay teams from Florida International, Florida Atlantic, North Florida, and Florida Southern.
Devan Martin (Jr., Duluth, Ga.),
Ashley Bransford (So., Santa Cruz, Aruba) ,
Lauren Chapple (So., London, England), and
Erin Black (Jr., Fort Myers, Fla.) also swam as a team in the event finishing in 1:54.54 for 16th-place.
As for the men, the relay team of Josh Davis, Oscar Aldabe, Hornikel, and Dougan touched at 1:36.50 for seventh-place. While
Michael Zislin (Fr., Lighthouse Point, Fla.),
Cameron Pfahler (Jr., Neptune Beach, Fla.), Shelley, and
Esau Simpson (So., St. David's Grenada) finished 10th at 1:39.01.
The next event for the Sharks was the 800-yard freestyle relay, Black, Chapple, Aranda, and Cutter showcased their endurance placing 11th at 7:54.45.
The men’s team was a few seconds away from a top-five finish in the 800 free relay, finishing at 7:03.54 for sixth-place behind a team from Florida State.
Florian Mehlan, Jonas Grundstrom (Sr., Fagersta, Sweden),
Addison Cates (Fr., Port Charlotte, Fla.), and Zislin turned-in the performance. One slot behind them in seventh-place was the relay team of
William Bunge (Sr., Springfield, Mo.) Oscar Aldabe (Jr., Alicante, Spain),
Chris Norris (So., Tallahassee, Fla.), and Dougan (7:10.04).
During the men’s 400-yard individual medley Aldabe (4:14.21) was the top Shark with an eighth-place finish. Grundstrom and
Cameron Chambers (Jr., St. Petersburg, Fla.) finished in ninth and 10th-place, respectively.
Through 28 swimming and diving events, the women’s team has totaled 49 points for ninth-place out of nine teams and the men’s team is in fifth-place out of six teams with 314 points.
