Women’s Tennis Finds Success at the C.L. Varner Memorial Invitational

Federica Longo and Kamryn Blackwood teamed up for a doubles victory.

WINTER PARK, Fla. –
The Nova Southeastern women’s tennis team notched a couple of wins on day one of its final tournament of the 2011 fall season, at the C.L. Varner Memorial Invitational.

Shark wins included Alexandra Johansson’s (Fr., Sydney,Australia) 6-4, 7-5 victory in the second round of the main draw – flight A, against Lisa Loft from Rollins. The win advances Johansson to the third round where she will face another Sunshine State opponent in Ioanna Ivan from Lynn.

Dominique Wimmer (Sr., Guntramsdorf, Austria) was not as successful in her second round match against No. 1 seeded Alexis Rodriguez from Central Florida, losing 6-1, 6-2.

In the main draw – flight B, Daria Burobina (So., Moscow, Russia) battled her competition from Florida Southern tough in the first set, but was unable to secure the win and eventually lost her first round match, 7-5, 6-2.

Entering the tournament Sharks head coach Michael Coleman anticipated his doubles teams to play well and the duo of Kamryn Blackwood (So., Farmington, N.M.) and Federica Longo (Jr., Buenos, Aires, Argentina)did not disappoint him. They teamed up to defeat a pairing from Saint Leo, 8-5, in the first round of a main draw – flight B doubles match.
