MIAMI, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern swimming and diving teams volunteered for the Rohto Ironman 70.3 Miami on Oct. 30.
The Sharks handed out water, sports drinks, bananas and gels to more than 3,000 participants as they raced by. In addition the Sharks collected hundreds of bottle caps for the NSU Student Government Association chemotherapy drive.
“There is no doubt that we had fun with the entire experience and in turn making sure the Ironman athletes were getting what they needed,” said head coach
Hollie Bonewit-Cron. “We are looking forward to doing these types of events in the future.”
The event consisted of a 1.2 mile swim, followed by a 56 mile bike ride and ended with a 13.1 mile run. Participants in the Rohto Ironman 70.3 Miami competed for one of the 50 slots in the 2012 Ironman World Championship.
“As athletes ourselves knowing that we helped out so many other athletes achieve the best they could in the race is fantastic,” said
Ash Dougan (Sr., Tewkesbury Glouchestershire, England).
