Cross Country Wraps Up Season at Regional Championships

Sharks unable to gain national appearance berth.



RESULTS

Dover, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern men’s and women’s cross country teams wrapped up their 2011 season this morning, Saturday, Nov. 5, at the NCAA regional championship’s held in Dover, Fla.

The women captured the highest team rank for the Sharks, placing third overall out of 17 competing teams. The women competed in a 6K and earned 135 total points with a total team finishing time of 1:59.32, only three seconds from the total team time of second place finisher and national qualifier West Florida.

Leading the charge for the women was Alexandria Palm (So., Winnebago, Ill.), who captured ninth-place of 107 total runners. Palm had a strong finishing time of 22:57.

Rounding out the final point contributors for the women were: Taylor Stokes(So., Advance, N.C.), who had a season best finishing time of 23:34 giving here 17th overall,  Peri Bowman (So., Virginia Beach, VA.) finished closely behind Stokes in 23rd overall with a crossing time of 23:46,  Brittaney Smash (So., Arlington, Texas) captured 31st overall with a time of 24:13 and closing out the point contributors was Courtney McAuliffe (Sr., Holiday, Fla.), who crossed the line in 55th place with an accumulated time of 25:02.

Also participating for the women were Jessica Osteen (Jr., North Las Vegas, Nev.) and Jessica Osteen (Fr., Miami, Fla.) who finished 67th and 81st with final times of 25:39 and 26:47 respectfully.

Competing in a 10K event were the men who took sixth place overall out of 16 other teams in competition.  The men accumulated 147 total points and finished with a total team time of 2:50.20.

Kevin Meagher (Jr., Mansfield, Mass.), who was first to cross for the Sharks, just barely missed the national qualifing mark by a mere five seconds with a total finishing time of 32:28. This time engraves Meagher in the record books as the school’s third fastest 10K race, only three seconds shy of the top honor.

Also contributing to the teams point total were: Timo Kilp (So., Kose, Estonia), who finished second behind Meagher with a final time of 33:29 giving him 18th place overall,  Omar Hernandez (So., Rio Pic, Ariz.), who pulled in third for the Sharks took 32nd overall with a crossing time of 34:21, Chris Jacob (Sr., Naples, Fla.), finished with a time of 34:53 etching him in 43rd place and rounding out the final points for the mean was Craig Sulken (Fr., Cincinnati, Ohio), who took 48th overall with a finishing time of 35:09.

Also competing for the sharks were Nico Crecco (Jr., Mendon, N.Y.), who placed 66th with an ending time of 36:38 and Ryan Jerothe (Fr., New Port Richey, Fla.) who finished the day off for NSU taking 72nd overall with a crossing time of 37:45.

Due to the national stipulations of: the top two men’s and women’s teams in addition to the top two individuals from non-qualifying teams and all individuals from the top five overall, the Sharks are unable to advance to the national championships. This event concludes NSU’s 2011 season.
