BOX SCORE

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. In the final game of the 2011 Trip Sports Cruzin Classic, the Nova Southeastern men’s basketball team knocked off the Keene State Owls (7-3), 83-70. Robert Huntington (Sr., Perth, Australia) had a team-high 18 points on 6-of-7 shooting from the field.

Huntington started the game off right for the Sharks, drilling a trey to put NSU on the board first. Sean Mullan (Jr., Mangerton, Australia) quickly added to the lead by throwing down a dunk off a Teddy Tassy (Sr., Pot-au-Prince, Haiti) steal.

The Sharks continued to grow their lead, as Jacob Reed (So., Perth, Australia) scored a fast break layup off a Tim Traversa  (Jr., Chicago, Ill.) steal to put NSU ahead eight, 33-25, with 7:14 left in the first half. The Owls responded with a 9-2 run, grabbing the lead momentarily. The Sharks fired back though with a 10-1 run at the end of the half, taking a 45-38 lead in the locker room at halftime.

Huntington paced the Sharks with 15 points in the opening stanza, while Justin Jeangerard (Fr., Weaverville, Calif.) and Iran Hollis (Jr., Hollywood, Fla.) each chipped in six. Anthony Mariano tallied 12 for Keene State in the half.

The Owls never posed a threat to the Sharks lead in the second, as NSU led by as many as 16 on multiple occasions. Shaun Pratl (Jr., Chicago Ridge, Ill.) dropped in four early points for NSU and Hollis added a pair of fast break layups just over five minutes into the half.

After a short spurt of offense from the Owls, Tassy hit a 3-pointer with 8:42 left on the clock to get the NSU lead back up to 12. Tyler Grillo hit a late trey for Keene State, but the Sharks were able to walk away with an 83-70 victory Monday afternoon.

Huntington, who recorded all six of his field goals in the first half, added three free throws in the second to give him a team-high 18 points. Derek D’Amours from Keene State led all scorers with 19 points.

Louie Schonauer (Jr., Lincoln, Ill.) registered 13 points for the Sharks, while Hollis scored 12 and grabbed a game-high eight boards.

The Sharks continue play Jan. 4, 2012, when Florida Tech makes the trip to the NSU Arena at the Don Taft University Center to renew SSC play.
