Men’s Golf 10th at Matlock Collegiate Classic

Bode leads Sharks on the links in spring opener

Lakeland, Fla. -- The Nova Southeastern University men’s golf team is currently 10th out of 15 at the Matlock Collegiate Classic hosted by Florida Southern. The Sharks carded a two-round 593 (295-298) on the 7,065 yard, par-72 Lone Palm Golf Club course.

Georgia College is the current tournament leader with back-to-back rounds of three-under par 285. Heading into the final round with a six-under par 570 team score, the 15th-ranked Bobcats control the lead thanks in part by the individual tournament leader Billy Shida’s two-rounds of eight under. Shida fired a tournament low of 67 (-5) in the opening round followed by a 69 (-3) in the second for a two-round score of 136.

Host Florida Southern is six strokes back with an even two-round 576 (288-288) in second, while West Florida (293-286, +3) and Newberry (285-294, +3) are third with identical rounds of 279. Columbus State (+4) rounds out the top five at 580 (294-286).

NSU’s Bobby Bode (Sr., Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) leads the Sharks with a two-round even par 144 (72-72) in a tie for 15th. Jack Bartlett (Sr., Worthing, England) is six strokes back of fellow teammate at 150 (76-74) and T38, while Ben Vertz (So., Coral Springs, Fla.) stands T45 with a two-round 151 (72-79). Mitch Farrer (Fr., West Sussex, England) heads into the final round T52 at 153 (80-73), while Ricardo Celia (Fr., Barranquilla, Columbia) rounds at the Sharks T57 with a two-round 154 (75-79).
