FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern University athletic department lost a member of its family last week as Christopher W. Todd, 42, passed away in his sleep.
Born in Syracuse, N.Y., Todd played baseball for NSU during the 1991 and 1992 seasons. Todd was one of the program’s early greats as he was honored with the 1991 Florida Sun Conference Player of the Year award. Twenty years after he arrived at NSU, Todd still ranks in the top five in career triples (14), walks (103) and stolen bases (75). Todd holds the record of 55 walks drawn in his 1991 season and no player has come within eight of his record since.
Todd worked as a detective in Miami-Dade County for over 15 years. He served as a United States Air Marshall for Homeland Security following 9/11. He enjoyed baseball, softball, fishing, golfing, weightlifting, the beach, Bass Lake, many friends, John Wayne, long talks, skiing, surfing, traveling, hiking, Montana, and Las Vegas.
The NSU baseball team will honor Todd with a moment of silence before this weekend’s doubleheader
