ORLANDO, Fla. – Nova Southeastern University women’s golfer,
Taylor Collins (Sr., Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) was named the Sunshine State Conference Female Golfer of the Week announced by the Sunshine State Conference on Monday for the week ending Feb. 27, 2011.
After shooting an opening round of 80 (+8), Collins came back in the second round firing a four-under par 68 to set a new Lady Moc Classic record for lowest round. The previous record had been held by NSU’s Maria Garcia-Austt set in 2007 at 69. She continued with a two-under 70 in the second round to finish tied for first with teammate Sandra Changkija (the 2010 NGCA Division II Player of the Year). On the 18th-hole playoff, Collins carded bogey on the par four to claim the individual medalist honors.
Collins helped pace the NSU women’s golf team to a 22-stroke win over a 15-team field at the 13th Annual Lady Moc Classic hosted by Florida Southern in Lakeland, Fla. The Sharks finished with a three-round 888 (299-290-299), which included a tournament record low round of 290 in the second round. The record was previously held by the hosting Mocs at 294 set in 2008.
The Sharks will return to action on Saturday, Mar. 5 at the Peggy Kirk Bell Classic hosting by Rollins in Winter Springs, Fla.
