FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern baseball team has completed its recruiting class for the upcoming 2012 season. The Sharks are bringing in seven position players and 12 pitchers.
"I am very excited for our 2011 recruiting class and the amount of quality baseball players our staff brought in, led by former Recruiting Coordinator
Cliff Terracuso,” said head coach
Greg Brown. “With such a large senior class in the 2011 campaign, we knew we had to be very aggressive in the market to fill our needs. This class has a solid mix of youth and experience and I look forward to watching them all come together to build on the tradition of success that is Shark Baseball."

In addition to the early signing class, the Sharks will add two catchers and an outfielder to replenish the offense. Kyle Harrington will begin his collegiate career after playing catcher at Western HS for NSU Hall-of-Famer Sonny Hansley. At Western, he was an All-Broward honoree as he hit .375 with 22 RBI. Harrington will be competing for the starting job against Brett Clements, a junior transfer from South Florida CC. Clements was an explosive JUCO talent that led the state with 20 doubles to go along with 38 RBI.
Taking the place of graduated All-American
Andrew Durden will be outfielder Chris Morales of Miami-Dade. As a freshman Morales hit over .400 and as a sophomore drove in 25 runs en route to all-state recognition.
Adding to the early signing class will be four right-handed pitchers and left-handed pitchers each. With all righties coming in as junior transfers, Shane Hill stands out as the only division I recruit. Hill was a South Florida high school stud who was drafted by the Brewers in the eighth round. At Florida Christian HS, Hill had a 0.97 ERA along with 92 strike outs.
Mike Gonzalez is a right handed pitcher coming in from Miami-Dade. The strike thrower was a Florida JUCO All-Star as he held a 2.89 ERA with a 6-3 record. Two righties will be coming in from Hillsborough CC in Nolan Houmes and Chris Rodriguez. Houmes was a First-Team All-Tampa honoree while Rodriguez, a reliever for Hillsborough CC, recorded 50 K’s with a 4.20 ERA.
Three out of the four left handed pitchers brought in last played in walking distance of the NSU Baseball Complex. Mitch Buerosse and Peter Cacciatore both come in from Broward College. Buerosse was Broward’s ace last season as he compiled a 7-4 record. Cacciatore was a reliever for Broward who recorded three saves and one win.
Reed Salzman will be crossing College Ave. after playing high school baseball at Nova HS. There he was undefeated his senior year as he compiled an 8-0 record with a 0.85 ERA. Wrapping up the class will be Villanova transfer Andrew Packard. As a high school pitcher in Knoxville, Tenn., Packard held a 2.07 ERA.
These recruits will join a team that made the NCAA South Regionals for the first time in program history. The Sharks went 35-18 last year and 16-7 in the Sunshine State Conference.
