FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - Playing in her first professional season after graduating from Nova Southeastern last spring, LPGA Futures Tour member
Sandra Changkija is a recipient of this year’s Pete Lorentzen LPGA Qualifying School Grant.
Changkija will be awarded $3,000 as recipients of the fund established by the family of the late Pete Lorentzen. The grant is made available to two Futures Tour players each year to help alleviate the costs of the annual LPGA Qualifying Tournament. Tour members are eligible by finishing the season ranked in the top 75 on the tour’s final money list.
Changkija finished No. 46 on the LPGA Futures Tour’s 2011 money list as a rookie this season. She posted two top-10 finishes in 10 Futures Tour events, including two ties for fifth at the South Shore Championship in India and at the Vidalia Championship in Ga.
The LPGA Futures Tour is the official developmental golf tour of the LPGA Tour. Membership is open to professional female golfers and to qualified amateurs. The LPGA acquired the Futures Tour in July 2007.
Changkija, a three time NGCA Player of the year recipient while at NSU, will be participating in the qualifying school Stage II with former teammate
Taylor Collins. Collins already advanced beyond Stage I of the qualifying school which advances the top-50 and ties.
Stage II begins Tuesday, Sept., 27 at the Plantation Golf and Country Club in Venice, Fla. Panther & Bobcat Courses.
For the third and final Stage participants will compete over 90 holes Nov. 30-Dec. 4, on both the Champions and Legends courses at LPGA International in Daytona Beach, Fla. Top finishers in the final stage will earn 2012 LPGA membership (total number of cards TBD) and all others who make the cut will receive LPGA Futures Tour status.
