NSU WEEKEND RECAP: Sharks Sweep Florida Southern at Home

With 17 athletic teams on campus, the Nova Southeastern Sharks are always competing at the highest level. If you did not get a chance to follow your favorite teams this weekend, here is what you missed:

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
Despite trailing by eight at the half, the NSU women's basketball team rallied to down No. 22 Florida Southern in overtime Saturday. The Sharks got career-highs from Danielle Robinson (Fr., Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) and Meixandra Porter (Jr., Chantilly, Va.) with 27 and 24 points, respectively.

The Sharks used a 9-0 run to begin the second half to take the lead for the first time in the contest. The Mocs regained the lead, but two Jessica Russi (So., Lake Mary, Fla.) buckets in the paint with under a minute to play tied the contest and forced overtime.

In the extra period, Robinson tallied 11 points and the Sharks converted on their late free throw attempts to hold off the Mocs. The victory was the second over a ranked opponent for the Sharks this season.

MEN’S BASKETBALL
The NSU men’s basketball team shot 65 percent from the floor in a win against Florida Southern Saturday at the NSU Arena in the Don Taft University Center. The win snapped a 10-game losing streak against the Mocs that spanned four seasons.

The Sharks shot better than they ever have in Sunshine State Conference play and were one percent shy of a program record. Teddy Tassy (Sr., Port-au-Prince, Haiti) posted a team-best 24 points on 8-for-10 shooting, which capped off a great week for the senior. A campaign for him winning SSC Player of the Week is currently trending online.

Robert Huntington (Sr., Perth, Australia) also had an outstanding game, posting 17 points, five rebounds and a game-high six assists. He shot 4-for-5 and made eight free throws. Iran Hollis (Jr., Hollywood, Fla.) pulled down a team-best eight rebounds to go along with 11 points.
