COOPER CITY, Fla. - During the weekends of Oct. 6 and Oct. 13, the Nova Southeastern University Student-Athlete Athletic Committee sent volunteers to Cooper City, Fla. to help raise funds for the Make-A-Wish foundation.
The Make-A-Wish foundation has been a foundation that the NCAA Division-II established a national alliance with the Make-A-Wish Foundation, a global charity that grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy.
The NSU SAAC obtained close to 2,000 signatures and helped donate roughly $2,000 to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. SAAC had representation from women’s basketball, men and women’s swimming and diving, softball, men and women’s track and field, and cross country during those two weekends.
A one-dollar donation was made to Make-A-Wish by Straight Talk Wireless for every Walmart customer who signed a paper saying they listened to the Straight Talk Wireless demonstration. There was a minimum donation of $500,000 with a maximum of $1,000,000 which was 500,000 signatures.
NSU SAAC will continue to participate and coordinate events where donations will go towards the Make-A-Wish foundation. The next event that SAAC will be fundraising for Make-A-Wish is Nov. 9th, where they will have a table set up at the first women’s basketball game.
