Basketball Takes Part in 33rd Annual Disability Expo

Sharks cheered on the teams from the sidelines.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. –The Nova Southeastern men’s basketball team had the chance to watch and support the wheelchair basketball teams during the 33rd Annual Disability Expo that took place at the Don Taft University Center.

“I think it was a great opportunity for our guys to support other athletes in our community.” said assistant coach Brandon Crone.  “It was humbling for our team to watch the participants who had different disabilities still giving it there all in a competitive sport. It was clear that the participants had put in a lot of time and effort into the sport.”

Another event that took place during the tournament was a game called “goal ball”. It is played by visually impaired individuals where they listen for the ball coming at them and try to block it. Some of our players had a chance to participate in the game at halftime. It gave the Sharks’ an opportunity to step foot in the participants shoes.

“They truly cared and gave 100 percent and it was very cool to watch.” said Crone. “Maybe we can set up a game between one of the teams sometime.”

The men’s team will be back in action for the start of the 2012-13 season on Nov. 15 at 7:30 p.m., where NSU will it’s  first home game against St. Thomas.
