FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Nova Southeastern softball player
Lorena Spaulding (So., Pembroke Pines, Fla.) will be honored prior to Game Three of the Major League Baseball World Series in Detroit, Mich. Saturday.
The infielder will be honored for her participation with the Dominicana RBI softball team, who won the Softball division of the 2012 RBI World Series in August.
“It’s an honor to be selected to attend this game as part of the RBI Program,” said Spaulding. “I view this as a once in a lifetime opportunity. It’s going to be great to be able to share my experiences with this program with others.”
The RBI program is part of a MLB initiative aimed at reviving baseball and softball in the inner city. RBI programs have been started in more than 200 cities worldwide, and annually provide more than 200,000 boys and girls the opportunity to play baseball and softball.
Spaulding will also have the opportunity to give back by participating in the Wanna Play? Program prior to Saturday’s World Series game. Spaulding will help run a batting clinic for youth ages 4-18. She will be assisting the clinic alongside fellow RBI representatives and MLB players.
