Taylor Selected to Compete for St. Andrews Trophy

Taylor will represent the Great Britain and Ireland squad.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Nova Southeastern golfer, Benjamin Taylor (So., Leatherhead, England), currently ranked No.1 in the nation, has recently been named to the Great Britain and Ireland squad to compete for the 2012 St. Andrews Trophy.

A preliminary 12-player Great Britain & Ireland squad has been selected for this year’s St Andrews Trophy match against the Continent of Europe, which will be played at Portmarnock Golf Club, Ireland, on Aug. 31 and Sept. 1.

“Ben is a very dedicated, hard worker,” said NSU head coach Garrett Runion. “His hard work and determination is a true testament to his recent accomplishments. To play for the St. Andrews Trophy is something very special and well deserving of him.”

The group features players who have enjoyed success across the globe, including Neil Raymond, winner of the 2012 New South Wales Stroke Play, Paul Shields, who shot a 61 at the recent 2012 Gauteng North Open in South Africa and the University of Alabama’s Jason Shufflebotham, who won last year’s prestigious Sam Hall Intercollegiate.

The squad will meet for the first time at Portmarnock, July 4-6 in a match play team environment consisting of two series of foursomes and singles matches. The squad will attend events throughout the summer and will be narrowed down to a final nine come August 1.
