FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Nova Southeastern women’s soccer coach,
Mike Goodrich, continues to expand his team by signing ten players to the 2012 women’s soccer team.
Included in the class of 2012 are six players from Fla., two from Texas, and one from both Calif. and NJ. The newcomers bring high school championships from the district, regional, and state levels. Additionally, they have numerous individual awards as well, including All-State, All County, and Olympic Development Program (ODP) experience.
“We are very pleased to welcome these young women into our family here at NSU,” Goodrich said. “All of them are very special in that they have demonstrated their unique abilities both in the classroom and on the field.”
Melissa Jasczak is a goalkeeper from Bloomingdale HS out of Valrico, Fla. She currently plays club soccer for the Lakeland Football Club. She earned All-Conference honors and plans to major in marine biology. Amanda Kopale is also a goalkeeper from the 2011 State Championship team Ida Baker HS out of Cape Coral, Fla. Her senior year she recorded 154 saves and 22 shutouts, while giving up just nine goals in 31 games. She was named to the All-County, State ODP, and All-State teams.
The Sharks brought in five midfielders and forwards to strengthen the offense. High school teammate to Kopale, Payton Van-Horn was named to the All-Conference, State ODP, and National Pool Teams. In her three seasons, Van Horn scored 35 goals and handed out 28 assists. Her sister Taylor is a sophomore rower here at NSU.
Liz Haumschild, from Riverview, Fla., played for Valrico HS. She currently plays club soccer for the Lakeland Football Club. She earned All-County honors and is a three time All-Western Conference selectee.
Becca Barb, from Logan Township, N.J., played for Kingsway HS. She was named Offensive MVP and earned All-State and All-Conference honors. She plans on majoring in sports and recreation management.
Sarah Keville, from Vero Beach, Fla., played for Vero Beach HS. Currently, she plays club soccer for Melbourne Eau Gallie United. She was named NSCAA All-American and Florida Player of the Year. She will be graduating in the top-ten percent of her class and plans to major in biology.
Cameron Wylie, from Allen, Texas, played for Allen HS, one of the largest public schools in Texas. She has played club soccer for FC Dallas, Texans, Solar, and most recently Sting. She was granted the all-around athlete award and second team All-District awards. She plans on majoring in business administration in the dual admission program.
Allyn Abadie, from Murrieta, Calif., played for Murrieta HS. She will be graduating in the top-three percent of her class and plans to major in athletic training.
Stephanie Moench, from Austin, Texas, played defense for St. Stephens Episcopal. She is a member of Lonestars FC and ODP State team. She plans to major in biology.
To round out the defenders, local recuit from Cooper City, Fla.,Tori Vives, played for Cooper City HS. She is a member of Weston FC and ODP State team. She was named to the All-County and All-State teams.
Goodrich added, “There is no doubt that we expect all of them to be successful individually and collectively during the next four years. Combined with the fine women who are already at NSU we anticipate a very bright future for the Sharks’ women’s soccer team!”
