Porter and Robinson Collect Women’s Basketball All-SSC Honors

Porter and Robinson have been the top-two scorers for the Sharks this season.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. The Sunshine State Conference announced its All-Sunshine State Conference women’s basketball honors Wednesday and two Nova Southeastern student-athletes, Meixandra Porter (Jr., Chantilly, Va.) and Danielle Robinson (Fr., Fort Lauderdale, Fla.), were recognized for their performance on the court this season. Porter was selected to the All-SSC First-Team, while Robinson was selected as the Freshman of the Year in the SSC. Each player was selected to the SSC All-Newcomer squad.

Porter, a transfer from Colorado State, has started all 27 games this season for the Sharks. She leads the team with 14.5 points per game, which ranks second in the conference. The junior is also second on the team with 82 assists and tied for second with 43 steals this season.

Robinson has made an immediate splash in her collegiate debut, ranking sixth in the conference, and second on the team, with 13.3 points per game. Robinson’s 2.2 made 3-pointers per game ranked third in the SSC, while her 37.1 percent three-point shooting average was ninth among conference players.  She has started 25 of the Sharks’ 27 games to date.

Both players have been sharp-shooters from long range, as Robinson has made 59 3-pointers this season and Porter has drained 50. Those numbers rank second and fourth, respectively, in the single-season record books for NSU. Robinson is just four made treys away from tying the single-season mark of 63 set during the 2007-08 season by Eliza Allen.

As new additions to the Sharks this season, Porter and Robinson have been an integral part of the Sharks’ backcourt, helping NSU reach the SSC Tournament semifinals this Saturday.
