Johnson to Participate in the WBCA’s “So You Want To Be A Coach" Program

Johnson is one of 50 seniors nationwide to be selected to participate in the program.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.  Quinessa Johnson (Sr., West Chester, Ohio), a member of the Nova Southeastern women’s basketball team, has been selected to participate in the WBCA’s “So You Want To Be A Coach” program this year. Johnson is one of only 50 seniors nationwide to be selected as a participant for the three-day event held in Denver from March 30 – April 1.
 
The mission of the WBCA's "So You Want To Be A Coach" program is to assist female collegiate basketball players who are interested in pursuing a career in coaching women's basketball with professional development and career advancement through education, skills enhancement, networking and exposure opportunities while increasing awareness regarding the availability of talented female basketball players who want to coach.
 
The objectives of the program are to increase the understanding and application of skills necessary to secure coaching positions in women's basketball, increase the understanding and awareness of competencies necessary for success in coaching, introduce female basketball players to coaches and administrators, raise awareness of the existing talent pool of female basketball players who have a passion and interest in coaching the game of women's basketball. Women of Color/Minority candidates are encouraged to apply.
 
The program is held in conjunction with the WBCA’s National Convention and the NCAA Division-I Women’s Final Four. The three-day workshop consists of numerous professional development sessions, including: Coaching can be a pathway to administration, strategies on getting hired, dealing with angry parents, recruiting – the basics and plays and plays development.
 
Johnson just completed her senior season, scoring eight points and grabbing six rebounds in the SSC Semifinals against Florida Southern. In two years with the Sharks after transferring from St. Francis, Johnson started 54-of-55 games and ranks eighth in the NSU record books with 78 career steals.
 
“Quinessa has a sincere desire to become a coach,” said head coach LeAnn Freeland. “She loves the sport of basketball and is very excited about the opportunity to be a part of the 2012 “So You Want To Be a Coach” class. I am confident she will greatly benefit from the experience at the WBCA Convention.”
