WINTER PARK, Fla. – The No. 1 Nova Southeastern women’s golf team earned high praise in this year’s All-Sunshine State Conference awards, as
Abbey Gittings (Jr., Tamworth, England) claimed SSC Player of the Year,
Daniela Ortiz (Fr., Morelia, Mexico) took SSC Freshman of the Year and
Liliana Cammisa (Fr., Ata Gracia, Argentina) received All-SSC First-Team honors.
Gittings earned her first Player of the Year award by collecting eight top-five finishes this season, including a pair of individual victories. She finished first at the Lady Falcon Invitational and the Peggy Kirk Bell Invitational. She was also the runner-up in a Division I-heavy field at Georgetown's Hoya Invitational. Gittings tied for fourth at the SSC Championship. Over 26 rounds of play, she posted a 75.42 stroke average.
SSC Freshman of the Year Ortiz tallied a 76.08 stroke average over 26 rounds. She notched eight top-10 finishes, including five top-five performances and one win. Her individual victory came at the NSU Shark Invitational. She placed second at the SSC Championship and the Peggy Kirk Bell Invitational.
Cammisa was the first Shark this year to bring home SSC hardware, claiming the 2012 SSC Individual Championship. Cammisa finished the tournament 12-over par with a three-round score of 228 (78-76-74), winning the title by three strokes. On the season, Cammisa was one of five athletes in the SSC to accumulate five to top-five finishes and had a stroke average of 76.35. Her average was lower than any athlete in the SSC outside of her teammates.
This is the second-consecutive season in which the Sharks made up the majority of the five-player All-SSC First-Team roster. Gittings, Ortiz and Cammisa claimed the top-three spots in Player of the Year voting.
