ORLANDO, Fla. – Nova Southeastern University softball head coach
Lesa Bonee helped the rising stars of the Deerfield Beach Sharks softball team win the 11/u Disney World Series Championship this summer. The girls had an unbelievable run as they were undefeated throughout the entire tournament.
A strong offensive showing propelled them to their World Series Championship. The Sharks’ offensive prowess was highlighted by Sami Restrepo’s outstanding performance at the plate which earned a well-deserved Tournament MVP title.
Lisa Stier, mother of the MVP honoree said, “Coach Bonee gives Sami experience from competing at collegiate level athletics and positively influences the Sharks through her dedication, fundamentals and hard work. As Sami's parents, we can attest to the great benefits provided by Coach Bonee's instruction. Our daughter is lucky to get direct access to Coach Bonee's attention, not only is she improving specific physical skills, she is learning the mental part of the game and building Sami's confidence and love for the game. It's great that she can hit and field the ball, but what’s better than that is that she is constantly learning what to do with the ball in different situations.”
Bonee, has been working with the USSSA team since 2009, and her coaching role has significantly expanded since. She works consistently to improve the girls’ hitting and makes time to give weekly private lessons to many of the athletes. Since working with Bonee, the team as a whole has shown great improvement in their overall performance and attitude.
Karla Antonio, manager for the team says that Coach Bonee, “makes things fun.” Bonee has had the NSU softball team serve as role-models to the young players. The college players have helped provide softball instruction to the Sharks as well as participated in fun, team-building activities such as tie-dying t-shirts, pumpkin carving and even having a pie throwing contest, at coach Bonee’s expense.
Bonee will continue to be part of the Deerfield Beach Sharks’ success and play a significant role in their growth and development. She will continue to foster the relationship between the Sharks and her collegiate team, offering a rare opportunity for the young athletes to have a glimpse into their potential futures as collegiate softball players. With Bonee’s expertise on and off the field, she will help the Sharks reach their full potential and prepare them for higher levels of competition.
