SSC SAAC ELITE Gathers in Orlando for Annual Conference

Sharks gain knowledge to improve campus SAAC.

ORLANDO, Fla.-NSU sent two representatives from SAAC to the Sunshine State Conference, that gathered for a conference in Orlando, Fla., to discuss the futures of this years’ SAAC committess through out the conference. The weekend focused on learning how to work in conference-style setting, sharing ideas, and listening to personal opinions on topics that deal with improving the relationships between the athletes and their schools.

One item that NSU will be working to improve on for this year is awareness of the Make-A-Wish foundation on campus. In raising money for Make-A-Wish foundation, several ideas were discussed on different fundraisers that can be immediately implemented to help make wishes come true for children with life-threatening medical conditions.

Every school had an opportunity to voice their opinions about how each school SAAC operated and what could they improve upon. This was helpful for the NSU representatives, as they prepare their agenda for the year to come. It gave the NSU SAAC a new way to approach their agenda and grow their SAAC initiatives.

“My knowledge and adoration for the national and NSU SAAC grew immensely over the weekend.” says Deven Martin (Sr. Duluth, Ga.) NSU representative. “I have been involved with SAAC for two years now, but the ELITE weekend was a new way to look at it all. It made me want to work extra hard this year to make our SAAC at NSU a prominent organization around campus and in the community. All of the positive energy and enthusiasm from the weekend is definitely something that I want to bring to NSU's SAAC in hopes of getting everyone else focused and excited about all of the potential we have for this year!”

Another topic discussed during the weekend, was the leadership role SAAC has on their campus. Both representatives were able to learn what kind of leaders they were and how their skills will be able to improve their campus SAAC.

“I learned what kind of a leader I am.” says NSU representative, Roberto Baroniel (Soph. Miami,Fla.)“With that being said, I need to embrace it and work on adapting to the styles of others who oppose the way I function. I learned that I could make a difference within a group if I put the effort to differentiate myself within it.”

The SAAC ELITE conference proved to be inspirational to the all the student-athletes from the conference who attended. All SAAC programs will continue to make great strides with the Make-A-Wish foundation, and improve the activity and attendance of their campus SAAC.
