FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern University women’s golf team is favored to win a record-setting fifth straight NCAA National Championship this year, according to the GolfWorld/WGCA Preseason Poll.
The Sharks won their fourth straight title last season while playing with only four golfers in their starting lineup after a mid-season transfer. They'll play with a full complement of five this fall under second-year head coach
Amanda Brown, helping them garner 24 of the 25 available first-place votes. The Sharks have six players on their roster headed into the fall season, with three newcomers alongside the nation’s top-three golfers according to Golf Stat.
Florida Southern was the only team to receive a first-place vote in the poll and entered the season picked second. Lynn, Barry and Saint Leo also entered in the top-10, allowing the Sunshine State Conference to take up half of the top-10 slots in the preseason poll. Rollins was also selected in the poll at 11th.
The Sharks will kick off the fall season on Sept. 21 at the Yale Women’s Intercollegiate in New Haven, Conn. Prior to the season, the Sharks will be honored on Friday, Sept. 14 with the unveiling of their national championship banner. The ceremony will take place during the NSU volleyball match against Lynn.
