FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern tennis team will play in its second tournament of the fall season, the 2012 USTA/ITA South Regional Championships, beginning Thursday, Sept. 27 in Lakeland, Fla.
The Sharks will send four singles players and two doubles teams to the tournament held at the Beermann Family Tennis Center, the same venue in which the Sharks competed at in the 2012 Florida Blue Sunshine State Conference Championships.
The South Regional Championships will include 12 teams on both the men's and women's side. The tournament, which has been limited to 4 entries per team per gender, will feature 48 singles players and 24 doubles teams for the women and 46 singles players and 23 doubles teams for the men. The conferences competing this weekend are the Sunshine State and Gulf South (GSC) conferences.
Of the four singles players competing for the Sharks, All-American Alexandra Johansson (So., Sydney, Australia) is the only player to receive a bye in the first round. She will face the winner of the match between Sonnervig of West Florida and Trotter of Palm Beach Atlantic.
Bianca Roberts (So., Fort Walden Beach, Fla.) will face Boehm of Valdosta State in the first round 10:30 a.m. Thursday. At the same time, Carlee Rizzolo (Fr., Livingston, N.J.) will face off in the first round against Cardenes of West Alabama. At noon, newcomer Luisa Pintado (Guadalajara, Mexico) will face Florida Southern’s Dominguez.
In doubles play, Rizzolo will join senior Austin Lavallii (Williamston, Mich.) and face the Eckerd doubles team of Bullock/Trapp. The Sharks’ other doubles team, Johansson and Charlotte Cote (So., Montreal, Canada), have received a bye in the first round.
