LAKELAND, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern tennis team had a solid start to the USTA/ITA South Regional Championships Thursday. The tournament is hosted by Florida Southern and takes place at the Beerman Tennis Center and the Warden Complex.
In singles play, the Sharks picked up a victory, as
Carlee Rizzolo (Fr., Livingston, N.J.) double-bageled Natalia Cardenas of West Alabama, 6-0, 6-0. Rizzolo nearly moved further into the third round but dropped a close three-setter against Mona Mansour of Barry, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4.
Luisa Pintado (Fr., Guadelajara, Mexico) also played a tough three-set match, but conceded against Florida Southern’s Joalis Dominguez, 5-7, 6-1, 6-2.
Bianca Roberts (So., Fort Walden Beach, Fla.) lost her first round match against Julianna Boehm of Valdosta State, 6-2, 6-2.
Charlotte Cote (So., Montreal, Canada) and
Alexandra Johansson (So., Sydney, Australia) received a bye in the first round of doubles play and went on to win their round-of-32 match against Rollins Elissa Decampli/Ashley Rosenberg, 8-5.
Rizzolo teamed with senior
Austin Lavallii (Williamston, Mich.) to win a first round match against Eckerd’s Carson Trapp/Taylor Bullock, 8-1. Saint Leo’s team of Adrianna Daszkiewicz/Emily Singleton ended Rizzolo and Lavallii’s run in the second round, 8-3.
