LAKELAND, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern tennis team has completed the second day of the USTA/ITA South Regional Championships Thursday. The tournament is hosted by Florida Southern and takes place at the Beerman Tennis Center and the Warden Complex.
Alexandra Johansson (So., Sydney, Australia) won her first singles match of the weekend in the second round. The Sharks’ top player this past spring defeated Luiza Sonnervig of West Florida, 6-0, 6-2. The win sent Johansson into the round-of-16, which featured the South Region’s best players. Johansson had a tough matchup with Barry’s Olivia Matuszak and fell, 6-1, 6-3. Johansson may have been taken out by the eventual tournament winner, as Matuszak also defeated SSC Player of the Year Ioana Ivan.
In the consolation singles draw,
Luisa Pintado (Fr., Guadelajara, Mexico) played tough against Rollins’ Mariana Salvador but lost two close sets, 6-3, 6-4.
Bianca Roberts (So., Fort Walden Beach, Fla.) also took a tough loss in the consolation draw, falling to Ashley Rosenburg of Rollins, 6-2, 6-2.
