Clements Signs with Houston Astros

Clements reports to Gulf Coast League affiliate in Kissimmee, Fla.

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – NSU alumnus Brett Clements will continue his professional career with the Houston Astros, after signing a contract with the club this week.

Clements, who started for NSU behind the plate for two seasons, has reported to the Gulf Coast League Astros in Kissimmee, Fla. He'll be one of four catchers looking to gain attention on the rookie ball team.

Clements was a key member of the Sharks' squad in 2012 and 2013, helping NSU make a regional tournament appearance and push the Sharks' streak of 30-win seasons to nine. During his time with the Sharks, Clements amassed 73 hits, 66 RBI's and four home runs.

Although Clements has a solid offensive reputation, his most valuable quality has been his defense. Clements capped off his senior year by receiving the South Region Gold Glove award. In 2013, he started 42 games behind the plate for the Sharks and had a .993 fielding percentage. He committed just two errors in 297 total chances, while throwing out 27 percent of would-be base stealers.
