"I am thrilled to be joining the NSU family," said Furlongue. "The staff has been so welcoming, and I look forward to working with everyone to assist in continuing to build on the great success of the athletics department. I would like to thank Kelley Kish and (director of athletics) Michael Mominey for the opportunity to work at an institution and athletics department the caliber of NSU."

Smith was most recently a compliance intern at Indiana University, and prior to that, worked in compliance as both an assistant and an intern at the University of Indianapolis. He is an alumnus of Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis, with a degree in sports management.

"I am very excited to rejoin my mentor Kelley Kish after previously serving as her intern at the University of Indianapolis," said Smith. "NSU Sharks athletics is a proven winner both in the classroom and on the playing surface, and I could not be happier about my situation right now working with Kelley and Marlon Furlongue. Coming to NSU in early June has allowed me to build positive work relationships with our coaches and staff throughout the summer and they have all made me feel very welcome to the Shark family."

Kish is excited to have both Furlongue and Smith join the compliance office.

"NSU Athletics has scored another victory by hiring Marlon Furlongue," she said. "The Division II experience, knowledge and attitude he brings to the compliance department will help us continue to be a model Division II athletic department. Marlon's transition to NSU will be seamless since he performed many of the same duties at Bluefield State as their compliance coordinator. I am confident he will also be able to draw on his background in the SSC and activities with MOAA and NAAC to have a positive impact on all Shark student-athletes, staff and the campus community.

"After working with Travis Smith previously, I look forward to him earning his master's degree while serving as our graduate assistant for compliance," Kish continued. "His work ethic, positive outlook and dedication are unmatched. I am excited to watch him continue to grow and learn from Marlon and the entire NSU Athletic Department, which will mold him into an outstanding athletics administrator."
