PORTLAND, Ore. – Former Nova Southeastern women's golfer Sandra Changkija earned her highest career finish on the LPGA tour with a ninth-place showing at the Safeway Classic over the Labor Day weekend.
Playing at Columbia Edgewater, Changkija had rounds of 68, 66, 69 and 73 to finish with a 12-under-par score of 276. That score tied her with five other golfers, eight strokes behind winner Suzann Pettersen.
"I've been hitting the ball well all year," said Changkija. "I just needed putts to drop, and they did this week."
Her previous career best was at the Manulife Financial LPGA Classic in June of 2012, when she finished in a tie for 10th. This is the fourth cut she has made this season on the tour, and her finish on Sunday earned her $23,628. It also moved her into ninth place in the qualifying for the U.S. Solheim Cup.
Following her performance in Portland, Changkija tweeted (@SandraChangkija), "Thanks @NSUSharks @NovaSE for your support over the weekend at @SafewayClassic #sharkpride."
