MEN'S RESULTS | WOMEN'S RESULTS
TAMPA, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern University men's and women's cross country each finished third overall at the 2014 Sunshine State Conference Championship Saturday at Dover Trails.
The men finished with 50 points in the 8K race, just one shy of second place Florida Southern. Saint Leo won the men's event with just 24 points. The women finished with 75 points in the 6K race, more than a 60-point difference from fourth place Florida Southern. Saint Leo won the women's event as well with 36 points.
Wade White (So., Bangor, Pa.) led the Sharks and finished fifth overall. His time of 26:14.20 is his new career-high and ranks 15th in NSU's record book. Also in the top-10 was
Long Tran (Jr., Saigon, Vietnam), who claimed ninth place with a time of 26:21 flat.
The rest of the Sharks' scoring runners finished together from places 11 to 13. Leading that pack was
Thomas Ingalls (So., St. George, Utah) with a time of 26:35.10. He was followed by
Lucas Ruiz (Jr., Tucson, Ariz.) and
Benjamin Manuel (So., Willemstad, Curacao) with times of 26:38.50 and 26:45.30, respectively.
The women's team was led by
Rachel Zachar (Sr., North Hudson, Wisc.) and
Rose Howell (Sr., St. Louis, Mo.), who finished back-to-back in the top 10. Zachar finished eighth with a time of 23:49.80 while Howell clocked in at 23:52.90 in ninth.
In 14th place overall was fellow senior
Aimee Sims (St. Anne, Ill.), who clocked in at a time of 24:27.60. Following the seniors was freshman
Emily Hernandez (Miami, Fla.) in 18th place. She crossed the finished line in 24:49.30.
Stephanie De La Guarda (Miami, Fla.) wrapped up scoring Sharks with a time of 25:35.80, good for 31st place.
The Sharks will return on Nov. 22 for the NCAA South Region Championship in Huntsville, Alabama. A top-3 finish at regionals would vault the Sharks to the NCAA National Championship on Dec. 6.
