FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Nova Southeastern University's Michael Goodrich has announced his resignation as the head coach of NSU women's soccer. Director of Athletics Michael Mominey will initiate a national search to begin immediately until filled.
"I want to thank Coach Goodrich for his dedication and service to the athletic department and to the university," Mominey said. "Under his leadership, our women's soccer program has grown into a highly-recognized NCAA Division II program. His student-athletes have excelled on the field and in the classroom throughout his entire tenure, and the foundation he built over the last 16 years has set the blueprint for future success."
Goodrich took over the program in 1999 and will leave behind a 16-year legacy where he has guided past teams through years of success, as well as the program's transition from NAIA to NCAA Division II. He holds the record for all-time career wins with 129, has won three conference championships and set over 40 program records during his tenure. Goodrich took the program to new heights in 2006 and 2007 when he led the team to their first-ever NCAA DII postseason tournament appearances in back-to-back seasons. Since 2007, his teams have also been presented the Team Academic Award six times (2007, 2008, 2009, 2012, 2013, 2014) by the NSCAA (National Soccer Coaches Association of America).
Throughout his years at the helm, Goodrich has coached and mentored hundreds of student-athletes who have displayed success and character on and off the field. Under his guidance, the program has had five All-Americans, 24 All-Region selections and 29 All-Conference honorees, including one Sunshine State Conference Player of the Year in 2007. He was twice named Conference Coach of the Year, once in 2000 by the Florida Sun and again in 2010 by the Sunshine State and has had numerous individual student-athletes earn scholar and academic awards. He has also coached two former student-athletes, Danielle DeGregorio and Stephanie Quinones, who have recently been inducted into the NSU Athletics Hall of Fame.
"After so many years, there are many people to thank of course," Goodrich said. "First among those are the young women, both past and present, who chose NSU and are now doctors, lawyers, teachers, and etc. all over the world. They have truly impacted the university, the athletic department and our soccer program. Secondly would be the great assistants I have had the distinct pleasure of working with over the years. They are all great women who are special in every way."
A 1986 graduate of Stetson University, Goodrich remains a strong advocate of community involvement. He has developed and produced numerous camps and clinics for children throughout South Florida and is the co-founder of the Frankie Foundation, which is a non-profit organization, dedicated to the purchase and placement of AEDs in area parks and recreational facilities.
