Track and Field Has 19 Student-Athletes Receive All-South Region Honors

Sharks recognized for being in the top five in the region for their events.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern University track and field teams had 19 student-athletes recognized by the United State Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) as All-South Region honorees.
 
In order to receive regional accolades, a student-athlete must place in the top five in the South Region in their respective events. NSU had 13 women and six men honored.
 
On the women's team, Peri Bowman (Sr., Virginia Beach, Va.) and Ciona Williams (So., Stockton, Calif.) each earned regional honors in three events. Bowman was recognized in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, 5,000m run and 10,000m run. Alexandria Palm (Sr., Winnebago, Ill.) joined Bowman in the 10,000m and the steeplechase while Rose Howell (So., St. Louis, Mo.) was also honored in the steeplechase.
 
Williams earned accolades in the 100m and 200m dashes as well as honors as a member of the 4x400m relay team. Quannisha Allen (So., Plantation, Fla.), Monica Sapp (So., Miami) and freshman Shannon Rolle (Miami) were the other members of the honored relay team. Rolle also was honored for her efforts in the 400m dash. The final runner on the women's team honored was Brittaney Smash (Sr., Arlington, Texas), who reached the top five in the 1,500m run.
 
In the field, Laruschka Joubert (Fr., Krugersdorp, South Africa) has been a national contender in the javelin throw and was honored for her accomplishments. At the Peach Belt Conference Championship, NSU swept the podium in the pole vault, and all three medalists, juniors Vanessa Munley (Moosic, Pa.), Brittany Todaro (Plantation, Fla.) and Rebecca Urrutia (Coral Springs, Fla.), were honored. Wrapping up the regional honorees on the women's team was Amanda Krenitsky (So., Lake Arial, Pa.) in the high jump.
 
The men's team had four athletes honored in multiple events. Davontae Carson (Jr., Seattle, Wash.) earned accolades in both the 100m and 200m dashes. Talyn Washington (Jr., Royal Palm Beach, Fla.) was also honored in the 200m, as well as the 400m dash. In the field, Ryan Jerothe (Jr., New Port Richey, Fla.) was honored in the pole vault and the decathlon while Darren Hendricks (So., Northport, Fla.) was honored in the discus and hammer throw events. Wrapping up Shark All-South Region honorees was Derrick Wood (Sr., Royal Palm Beach, Fla.) in the high jump and Wade White (Fr., East Stroudsburg, Pa.) in the steeplechase.
