WINTER PARK, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern University varsity-8 boat and head coach
Stephen Frazier-Wong each earned Sunshine State Conference Boat and Coach of the Year, as announced by the conference office Friday. Frazier-Wong earned co-coaching honors alongside Rollins' Shawn Pistor.
Coming off the first national championship in program and conference history, the No. 1 Nova Southeastern Sharks remained atop the Division II standings all season long.
The Shark Eight earned six first-place finishes, including their most recent victory at the prestigious Aberdeen Dad Vail Regatta. Nova Southeastern defeated No. 2 Humboldt (6:33.450) by less than a second crossing the line with a time of 6:32.972.
The Nova Southeastern V8 won the conference championship race with a time of 6:53.4 to top rival and No. 3 Barry by 10 seconds. The Sharks went on to win the SSC Championship.
The Shark Eight took first place at the FIRA Championship with a time of 6:50.5, and finished second at the SIRA Championship with a time of 7:02.9. They finished second to Division I Kansas State at the SIRA Championship.
The Nova Southeastern V8 was named SSC Boat of the Week four times this spring.
In just his second season as head coach of Nova Southeastern, Frazier-Wong earns his second Coach of the Year award. Frazier-Wong returned from winning the program's first national title in just his first year with continued success in 2014. His Sharks were ranked No. 1 the entire season and earned its third SSC Championship in four years—their sixth overall. He leads Nova Southeastern back to the NCAA Championship for a chance to defend its title.
