Men's Golf Moves on to Nationals With Second-Place Region Finish

Gomez, Lengdèn each finish in top 10 for runner-up Sharks

POOLER, Ga. – The Nova Southeastern men's golf team is Allendale-bound, as they ended play at the NCAA South/Southeast Regional in second place and will move on to the 2014 DII National Championships beginning in 12 days.
 
The Sharks finished six strokes behind Sunshine State Conference rival Barry, as the Bucs totaled a 284 on Wednesday and 868 total, ahead of NSU's 10-over score of 874 (290-292-292). Santiago Gomez (So., Armenia, Colombia) led the way as he tied for third overall at 212, tying his best finish as a Shark. He wrapped up with a 1-over 73, firing five more birdies for 17 total in the event.
 
In addition, the team had two individuals with even-par or better scores on Wednesday, each carding their best round of the tournament. Oscar Lengdèn (Jr., Helsingborg, Sweden) was in the red in his final round, shooting a 2-under 70 with five birdies of his own, while senior Mitch Farrer (West Sussex, England came in at an even 72 and had two birdies. Lengdèn finished in a tie for 10th, his best finish since Feb. 11, while Farrer tied for 19th.
 
Rounding out the scoring for NSU were Ricardo Celia (Sr., Barranquilla, Colombia) and Hunter O'Mahony (So., Jupiter, Fla.). Each finished at 13-over, but the two combined for nine birdies on the final day.
 
The Bucs and Sharks will join South Carolina-Aiken, Armstrong Atlantic State, Lynn, Delta State and North Alabama as the top seven teams in the regional, and all will now move on to The Meadows Golf Club in Allendale, Michigan for the upcoming Championships. Play begins on May 19 and will continue until the 23rd, as the Sharks look to contend for their second national title in the last three years.
