FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Head baseball coach Greg Brown will travel to Cary, North Carolina next week to manage one of the six teams in the USA Baseball Tournament of Stars presented by Major League Baseball.
This will be Coach Brown's second year at the Tournament of Stars, as he served as the pitching coach for the 2013 Stars squad. Coach Brown will be the manager of the Stripes team this year.
"I am very proud and honored to be selected to be a part of the 18U National Team selection process," said Brown. "The Tournament of the Stars is a very special event where coaches, players and support staff come together from all over the country with the common goal of winning a gold medal. The talent and the people involved are what make this event great and I am very humbled to be selected to manage the Stripes team."
Spanning six days, the Tournament of Stars is made up of 108 of the nation's best ballplayers that are international age-eligible for 18U National Team consideration. The 108 ballplayers are divided into six teams and compete in a week-long tournament. The staff of each team will meet at the end of each day and discuss who they believe are the performers in the tournament. At the end of the week, 40 players are selected to move on to the trial stage where the final 20 players will be selected to play for the 18U National Team.
This year alone, 16 USA Baseball alumni were taken in the first round of the MLB Draft.
