FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Nova Southeastern University alumnus Mike Fiers has been recalled to pitch for the Milwaukee Brewers, as announced by the Brewers on Saturday.
Fiers has been called up to replace relief pitcher Tyler Thornburg, who was placed in the 15-day DL. Fiers has been a phenom for AAA Nashville Sound, where he holds a 2.53 ERA over 67.2 innings pitched. Fiers has been a strikeout machine, where he has amassed 92 K's to only nine walks. That total equates to 12.24 K's per nine innings. He has held opposing batters to a .215 batting average.
The peak of his season came on May 10, where he had a career-high 13 strikeouts over 6.2 innings. Since then he has reached double-digit strikeouts in four of her last six starts.
Fiers has experience at the major league level, where he has made 36 appearances and pitched in 152 innings. He holds a career ERA of 4.20 with the Brewers and has averaged nine strikeouts per nine innings. Currently, the Brewers are 37-26 and in first place of the National League Central Division.
