MELBOURNE, Fla. – Two Nova Southeastern University student-athletes were chosen as their respective sport's Sunshine State Conference Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday.
Men's swimmer
Thiago Sickert was selected for his performances Indian River and Rollins over the weekend, while
Denvyr Tyler-Palmer was selected after her squad won two road matches this past weekend.
Sickert won every individual race he swam in this past weekend. Against Indian River, the junior swam three NCAA B-Standards times including the 50-yard freestyle, 100-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly. His times were 20.61, 45.15 and 49.22, respectively. Against Rollins, Sickert swam a NCAA B-Standard of 1:49.75 in the 200-yard butterfly to secure victory. Sickert has the top time in NCAA Division II in the 50-free and 100-free. He ranks in the top five in DII in the 200-yard freestyle, 100-fly and 200-fly.
Tyler-Palmer had two double-doubles in two Shark victories over the weekend, and nearly had a third during the mid-week match. Afer a nine kill/10 dig effort against Palm Beach Atlantic, she posted 14 kills and 21 digs in a four-set win Friday against Embry-Riddle, and then helped facilitate a sweep of Rollins Saturday with a team-best 14 kills and 11 digs. She also had a hitting percentage of .324 in the latter win.
Sickert and the Sharks swimming team will be back in action on November 21
st against the University of Tampa. The meet is set to begin at 11 a.m. at the NSU Aquatic Center. As for Tyler-Palmer and the volleyball team, a big weekend is on the horizon, as Eckerd and Saint Leo come to town on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
