FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Nova Southeastern University's Lesa Boneé has announced her resignation as the head softball coach at the NSU. Director of Athletics Michael Mominey will initiate a national search that will begin immediately.
"Lesa is taking time to step back from collegiate coaching, but will maintain a local connection and involvement in the sport through her Domination Softball Company," Mominey said. "To a loyal and dedicated member of my staff and to the university, I wish Lesa well in her future endeavors."
Boneé was well respected by her coaching peers locally, within the SSC and nationally. In her 13 years at the helm, she guided the softball program to a 416-300-1 record. During that time, NSU celebrated 10 winnings seasons, which included seven seasons with 30 or more wins. From 2008-2010, her clubs posted three consecutive 40-plus win seasons and twice her teams were selected for NCAA regional postseason play (2009 & 2010). In 2009, Boneé's squad posted 49 wins, tied for second most in program history, which vaulted the team to a No. 18 ranking in the NFCA top-25 national poll.
Throughout Boneé's tenure, she coached and mentored hundreds of student-athletes, several of which have gone on to earn postseason honors. She has coached 5 All-Americans, 7 Scholar All-Americans as well as 17 All-South Region and 39 all-conference selections. She also coached three Sunshine State Conference Players of the Year in Katie Veltri (2007), Lauren Lopez (2010) and Ericka Garcia (2014). Veltri and Lopez were recently voted into the NSU Athletics Hall of Fame. Lopez will receive her formal induction into the hall of fame during the Induction Celebration this November.
