FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Nova Southeastern University head volleyball coach
Jennifer King has announced the first three signees of the 2016 recruiting class.
"I am tremendously excited about our incoming class," said King. "They are bringing depth to our roster, but more than that, they are going to be positive additions to our GR1T culture. I see each of them competing for playing time immediately and helping us bring NSU volleyball to new heights."
South Florida native Tashalyn Begon will bring her skills as an outside hitter. The Barry University transfer was named Second Team All-Sunshine State Conference in 2014-15 after amassing 285 kills, 163 digs and 36 blocks during that season. While attending Archbishop Edward A. McCarthy High School, Begon was named
Sun-Sentinel Second Team All-County and made the Florida Athletic Coaches Association All-Star Team.
"Tashalyn brings great maturity and confidence to the team as a graduate transfer," said King. "She will make an immediate impact for us both offensively and defensively. She has had a tremendous career up to this point, and similar to our graduating seniors, I look forward to ending her college career with a bang!"
Hailing from Toledo, Ohio, Kerrigan Grace McVicker will also bring her expertise to the outside hitter position. McVicker helped lead St. Ursula Academy to a State Final Four appearance after winning the conference, district and regional championships during her senior year. As a member of the Toledo Volleyball Club 18-Elite team, McVicker was part of the squad that earned the honor of 2015 National Division Silver Champions at the USA Volleyball Girls' Junior National Championships.
"Kerrigan is a very strong outside hitter who has the ability to play in multiple positions. Her time at top-ranked St. Ursula Academy in Ohio has prepared her for the challenges she will face in the collegiate game," said King.
Elyssa Stimmell rounds out the group bringing depth at middle blocker. Stimmell was a two-sport athlete at Foundation Academy playing both volleyball and basketball. The Winter Garden, Florida native served as team captain and was named the Most Valuable Player and First Team All-District while at Foundation. She was also a member of the Orlando Volleyball Academy, earning Academic All-American honors.
"Elyssa is a wonderful person from an amazing family, and she will bring a strong work ethic, positivity and joy to our group," said King. "As a longtime member of the Orlando Volleyball Academy, she has trained at a very high level and is familiar with the strength of the SSC."
The 2016 NSU volleyball schedule will be announced in the fall.
