FORT LAUDERDALE – Nova Southeastern University senior swimmer, Emma Wahlstrom represented both her home country of Sweden and NSU on the international stage by winning the 200-meter freestyle event at the Swedish Nationals in her hometown of Stockholm this past week.
 
Wahlstrom, who has already recorded several NCAA provisional qualifying times this season, won the 200-meter free event with a time of 1:58.53, which is just over half a second of her personal best time at 1:58.00. In addition to her win in the 200, she also won the 800-meter free, was part of the 400-meter medley relay team that won gold and won silver and bronze in the 400-meter free and 100-meter backstroke events respectively.

"It was amazing to go back home to swim in Swedish Nationals, especially since it was in my hometown," Wahlstrom said of the experience. "I got to see my family and it was so beautiful! I swam much better than I thought I would and my coaches here at NSU have been a big part of my success. I am excited to be able to represent the Swedish National Team in December and can't wait to see what the future holds for me."
 
Swedish Nationals was a five-day consisting of prelims and finals hosted in Stockholm. The win earned Wahlstrom a spot on the national team where she will have a chance to represent her home country at the NORDIC Nationals in Denmark this coming December.
 
"Emma's performance this early in the season is definitely impressive and we are delighted for her with this achievement," head NSU swim coach Ben Hewitt said. "She has been a diligent and consistent member of this team and this performance in the 200 free reflects the work she has put in to being successful."
