th-ranked Southern Connecticut State, sophomore
Dwayne Gibson has earned Sunshine State Conference Player of the Week honors, announced by the league office Monday afternoon.
Gibson poured in a career-high 23 points on 8-of-13 shooting, including an impressive 5-of-7 from beyond the arc, to help the Sharks collect their first win over a ranked opponent since February of last season. The Indianapolis native also added seven rebounds and a pair of blocks in the effort as Nova Southeastern has now climbed back to 2-2 overall on the year.
Gibson carried the offense early on in the ball game, registering 15 of his 23 points in the opening 20 minutes. With the team trailing midway through the first half, he brought the crowd to life by reeling off 10 points in a 2:35 span to put the Sharks in front by a seven-point margin.
