MELBOURNE, Fla. – Nova Southeastern University's
Julian Loret de Mola has been named the Sunshine State Conference Pitcher of the Week for his performance against the Embry-Riddle Eagles this past Saturday, the third such honor for a Sharks pitcher this season, joining two-time Pitcher of the Week
Alex Mateo.
After being recognized in the Senior Day ceremonies prior to the first game of Satruday's doubleheader, Loret de Mola threw a complete game five-hit shutout in the second game to defeat the Eagles, earning his fifth victory of the year, all of which have come in his last six games. His performance secured the Sharks' fifth consecutive weekend sweep. Loret de Mola lowered his ERA to 2.72 and his opponent batting average to .205, both of which lead the SSC. He became the first Shark to pitch a complete game shutout since Vinnie Contaldi on March 2, 2013 against Bentley.
Loret de Mola and the Sharks will be back in action this Friday, April 29th, when they will travel to Lakeland to take on the Florida Southern Moccasins at 6:00 p.m. He will be hoping to wrap up a program-record sixth consecutive sweep when he takes the mound in the series finale on Saturday, in a crucial SSC match-up, between the second-place Sharks, who sit just a game behind the Tampa Spartans for first place, and the third-place Mocs.
