Track and Field Garners Multiple Individual Peach Belt Conference Awards

Bryan Hagopian and two freshmen receive recognition for a great season

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - Nova Southeastern University track and field team received multiple awards over the weekend at the Peach Belt Conference Championships, hosted by the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. On Saturday, April 23 the Sharks received the PBC Men's Track and Field Coach of the Year, Freshman Field Athlete of the Year, and Freshman Track Athlete of the Year awards.

Head Coach Bryan Hagopian was called up to the podium by PBC Commissioner David Brunk to redeem the 2016 PBC Men's Track and Field Coach of the Year trophy for leading a successful season for the Sharks and for displaying the best sportsmanship example throughout. During the 2013-14 season Hagopian received the PBC Women's Track and Field Coach of the Year award as well. Hagopian has a great record as head coach of NSU's cross country teams as well, as he also received the men's coach of the year honors during the 2012-13 season.

The Sharks were ecstatic to find out that two of their team mates also received individual PBC awards. William Glesge displayed an excellent performance in most of the throwing events at the PBC championships, which led him to obtain the PBC Freshman Field Athlete of the Year recognition. Prior to this award Glesge reached the podium for placing third overall in the men's hammer throw competition.

German distance runner Maximilian Sperl also had an outstanding show over the weekend, winning a gold medal in the men's 5k run and a silver medal in the men's 10k run. His great efforts led him to receive the 2016 PBC Freshman Track Athlete of the Year award and the cheers of all his teammates and coaches during the recognition.
