FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The No. 6 Nova Southeastern rowing team saw
Adrianna Rosario,
Amanda Hudon and
Victoria Porretti named National Scholar-Athletes by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA).
The three Sharks earned this honor after finishing the fall 2015 semester with cumulative GPAs of 3.5 or higher. Other requirements set by the CRCA are that the student be in their second, third or fourth year of eligibility, competed in 75 percent of the team's events and have met all institutional eligibility requirements.
"We are very proud of the recognition that Victoria, Adrianna and Amanda have earned from the CRCA," said head coach
Heather Barney. "The National Scholar-Athlete award is a testament to the hard work that they put in both in the classroom and on the water. They exemplify the true spirit of the NSU student-athlete."
Rosario (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) served as on the of the team captains this season, helping lead the Sharks to their sixth NCAA Division II Rowing Championship appearance. In addition to leading the varsity eight, she was in the four boat that claimed first at FIRA Championships. The senior finished her semester with a 3.52 grade point average in pre-law.
Fellow veteran Hudon (Sr., Sebastian, Fla.) was also a key piece of the varsity eight as the boat's coxswain throughout the season. She helped lead NSU to second-place finishes at SSC Championships and the Knecht Cup while also appearing at the NCAA Championships. Hudon majored in environmental science putting up a 3.64 GPA.
Sophomore Porretti (Norristown, Pa.) has been one of the team's up and comers primarily as coxswain of the varsity four boat. She was part of the V4 that took first at the Stetson Rowing Rendezvous and second at the Head of the Charles Regatta and SSC Championships. Porretti has a 3.55 cumulative GPA majoring in athletic training.
