FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – In his first year as Nova Southeastern's head rowing coach,
Devin Fay is pleased to announce the Fall 2016 schedule, with the Sharks set to compete three times.
"Our fall racing schedule is slightly non-traditional because similarly to years past we race very little, only attending to two races, both in Florida, where the team will do multiple race pieces instead of the traditional once down the course 5000 meter piece common in fall rowing," explained Fay. "This style of competition is great for the development of our team because it give us the several attempts to hone our abilities, executing specific race plans with specific parameters under duress."
The Sharks will begin with a scrimmage on Oct. 8 in Orlando, Fla. where they will compete against the host, University of Central Florida.
For the second year in a row, the Sharks will make the trip to Boston, Mass. to participate in the Head of the Charles Regatta on Oct. 22. Since its inception in 1965, The Head of the Charles Regatta has attracted hundreds of thousands of rowers to the banks of the Charles River and is a great way to help the Sharks prepare for the upcoming 2017 season.
"The Head of the Charles is arguably the most traditional, well-known rowing race in the world and we send our Top-4 person boat to Boston to represent Nova Southeastern University in that setting as a competitive member of the rowing community," Fay expounded.
Following the Head of the Charles, NSU will head to Melbourne, Fla. to compete in another scrimmage held by Florida Tech. In this race, the Sharks will face off against the host Panthers as well as Jacksonville University.
