FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Nova Southeastern University Athletics and Agave Taco Bar in Davie hosted Davie Elementary Night for elementary school students on Aug. 30. The elementary students were able to meet NSU student-athletes and 20 percent of the proceeds made that night were donated back to Davie Elementary School.
Members of NSU's volleyball, men's soccer and women's soccer teams participated in signing posters and ticket give-a-ways to NSU home events for the upcoming season. After the kids got their autographed posters, Razor, the NSU Sharks mascot, was also on hand for posed and selfie pics.
"It was really nice to make young kids smile," said men's soccer player Brandon Padjen. "The kids were smiling ear-to-ear when we signed the posters and gave them the tickets. To be able to have a personal relationship with our community is a good feeling. It shows we support each other."
At the conclusion of the event, the Davie Elementary Principal, Robert Schneider, thanked Agave Taco Bar and NSU Athletics for holding this event and showing their support for the local community.
"The event was a great experience and it was nice to meet the students," said women's soccer player
Sini Laaksonen. "It is always a privilege to be able to help and show support the community in any way. I am excited to see the kids come out to our games. Their support would mean a lot to us."
