Peters Joins NSU Baseball Coaching Staff

Former University of Pittsburgh assistant has spent 19 seasons at the D1 level

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Defending national champion Nova Southeastern rounded out its coaching staff for the 2017 season by announcing the hire of Bryan Peters Thursday afternoon. Peters will serve as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator, working primarily with the infielders.

Prior to his arrival at Nova Southeastern, Peters has accumulated 19 years of coaching experience at the NCAA Division I level – most recently with the University of Pittsburgh. In addition to his time spent within the Atlantic Coast Conference, Peters' previous coaching stints include stops at High Point University, University of Central Florida, Stetson University and University of South Florida.

"Petey brings a wealth of recruiting and coaching knowledge to the program," said Sharks' head coach Greg Brown. "Being a national recruiter and having had great success in Florida, I believe that he will be a great asset to our program and will help continue to build the success of the program into the future."

Throughout his notable career, Peters has coached more than 55 players who eventually signed professional contracts, seven of those whom advanced to the big leagues. Peters has also helped guide more than 50 players to all-conference selections, while even landing the nation's No. 23 recruiting class as recently as 2015.

Under Peters' tutelage at High Point, the Panthers set program records for batting average, doubles, hits, home runs, RBI, runs scored, stolen bases and walks. During that same span, three players recorded season batting averages of .400 or better - Billy Alvino and Alfie Wheeler in 2009 and Nate Roberts in 2010. Furthermore, Roberts led the nation with a .573 on-base percentage and 88 runs scored en route to becoming just the second Panther to be named the Big South Player of the Year.

As a player at USF in 1995-96, Peters became one of the most versatile players in program history after earning time at second base, shortstop, third base, left field and on the mound. Overall as a player, Peters carried the Bulls to a pair of regular season conference titles and two NCAA Regional appearances before directing the program to three more regionals as a coach.

A native of Lancaster, California, Peters collected all-conference honors at Antelope Valley (Calif.) Community College before transferring to South Florida, where he received his bachelor's degree in speech communication in 1997.
