NSU Makes Program History with New No. 7 Ranking

Sharks currently tops in South Region

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern women's soccer team made history on Tuesday, eclipsing the previous program record by climbing up to No. 7 in the new United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division II rankings.

"It is nice to see our team get recognized for their good work so far this season," said head coach John Constable. "It's pretty cool to see how far the program has moved forward over the past few years and the consistent strides we continue to make. We are still a very young team. From 33 players currently rostered, only four are upperclassmen. What we do have, though, is a talented group of fantastic girls that give absolutely everything every day both in practice and in games, which is the reason we are picking up results. We shall continue to work hard to try and achieve the goals set for ourselves back in August."

After holding onto ninth in the polls a week ago, the Sharks jumped two spots following a pair of Sunshine State Conference wins over Palm Beach Atlantic and Saint Leo. Early goals from Monica Orteu and Adanna Edwards helped run Nova Southeastern's unbeaten streak to 12 matches against the Sailfish, while the Sharks needed some late-game magic from Emma Heikkila to extend its record to 6-0-1 in league play.

At 10-1-1 overall on the year, head coach John Constable's club maintained its title as the region's top team for the third consecutive week, ahead of both Lee and Mississippi College.

With an unblemished 14-0 record, Central Missouri remained atop the national standings. Western Washington, meanwhile, filed in at No. 2, followed by No. 3 Grand Valley State, No. 4 Kutztown and No. 5 Carson-Newman.

The first official NCAA South Region rankings, which will determine the Sharks' postseason fate, will be released on Wednesday.

NSU will attempt to complete the regular-season sweep of Barry when it hosts the Buccaneers this Thursday at 8 p.m. ET. For complete coverage, follow along on Twitter at @NSU_WSoccer and by clicking on the provided links on the schedule page.
