NSU Lands Four on United Soccer Coaches All-South Region Teams

Bailey Corbin and Adanna Edwards each named first team selections

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – In addition to their All-Sunshine State Conference accolades, four Nova Southeastern women's soccer players have been selected to the United Soccer Coaches All-South Region teams. Defender Bailey Corbin and forward Adanna Edwards were named to the first team, while midfielder/forward Emma Heikkila and midfielder Monica Orteu each earned second-team recognition.

The Sharks' two first-team honorees tied for most among any team in the region.

Corbin capped her Nova Southeastern career with yet another award after previously being selected First Team All-South Region by the D2CCA, in addition to earning the SSC's Defensive Player of the Year award. The Lampeter, Pa. native helped guide the Sharks to their third consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance by tallying five goals in 16 starts in 2017. Corbin recorded the game-winner in Nova Southeastern's SSC regular season championship-clinching win over Tampa and later followed it up with another score in the Sharks' 1-1 draw against sixth-ranked Lee in the South Region semifinals.

A member of the D2CCA All-South Region second team, Edwards provided a significant impact up top in her first season as a Shark. Also picked as the SSC Freshman of the Year, she recorded 12 points on five goals and two assists. The forward from Miami waited less than six minutes into her collegiate debut to find the back of the net against North Alabama before adding her first career multi-goal effort in the ensuing match against Felician. Her five goals this fall ranked among the Top-10 in the SSC, with two of those coming as game-winners.

Just a sophomore, Heikkila finished the 2017 campaign as the top goal scorer for the SSC's top scoring offense. Despite missing action due to injury, she registered six goals in 12 matches, including five versus SSC competition. Her goal and point totals both ranked among the Top-5 in the SSC.

One of just three seniors on the NSU roster, Orteu provided leadership and consistency in the midfield throughout the fall for the Sharks. The native of Barcelona tallied at least one point in over half of her 17 starts, amassing four goals and a team-best six assists. Orteu turned in her best matches during the biggest moments, recording three points in the Sharks' crucial 2-0 win over Tampa before adding an assist in the NCAA Tournament against Lee.

NSU finished the season with a record of 12-4-2.
